Frequently Asked Questions

What class should I sign up for?

Sign your child up for the class that is listed for their age/grade.

Some classes are 1 hour, some are 1-1/2 and some are two. Take your child's attention span, interest in working on a project independently, and their personality into consideration when choosing a class.

Classes are designed to keep children with their peers. I, of course, want to foster the love of sewing, but most importantly, I want the kids to find a community of children that share the same interests.

Classes are organized by age group, which sometimes means a child that has been with me for a year or more may be in the same class as a brand new sewist. I like doing classes like this for two reasons. First, kids can catch up QUICKLY! They only need one "quick-start" class to catch up. Second, the more experienced children learn even more by helping the newer students.

"Quick-Star" class- This class is for any child who has never taken a sewing class with me. This class is offered independently from the listed "session" classes.

Adult classes-This class takes place on night a week for any level sewer. From beginner-don't even know what a sewing machine is, to... "Not your first rodeo" but ready to tackle more skills.

Is this a drop off or do I need to stay?

This is a drop off. However, you are always welcome to stay.

What happens if we miss a class?

If you  or your child miss a class, we can discuss a good time to make that up. Due to my hours being limited to only after school, I can only make up one class.

Where should I buy supplies?

OH! I'm glad you asked!! :)

1. Hobby Lobby is my go to for a quick run. Their fabric is nice and the ladies at the cutting table are helpful. And it's clean and tidy.

2. Joann's is good too. (It's just a little too messy for me. Which is funny because my house looks worse.) I don't find the ladies as helpful. You can find decent apparel fabric, but their quilting cotton is not my favorite. They have almost everything you need and there is always a sale!

3. MY FAVORITE place is The French Seam in Fishers/Indy. She is locally owned and her fabric is BEAUTIFUL! She is NOT cheap. She has apparel fabric, quilters cotton, wool, silk, gorgeous buttons, and independent pattern makers as well as some from the Big Five (McCall's, Butterick, Vogue, Burda, and Simplicity).

4. Another good local shop is The Cotton Co. on Rangeline in Carmel. Also locally owned. Her quilter's fabric is lovely. She is priced fairly-but no sales- so she's more than Joann's. But working with nice fabric is a joy.

What is your cancelation policy?

If you cancel a class one week before the class I can refund your money 100%. Any cancelation with less than one week's notice cannot be refunded.

I can guarantee ONE make up class if you should miss a class.  I cannot do more than one make-up class. If I cancel class I will refund your money for that day.

Does it matter what I get for my project?

Yep!

Thread: Thread should be "ALL PURPOSE" thread. I am not picky on the brand. Look at the spool, it should say 100% polyester "ALL PURPOSE THREAD." Your little girls will try to talk you into the pretty, shiny, rainbow colored thread. Don't fall for their shenanigans!! ONLY ALL PURPOSE! (Not quilter's thread or embroidery thread.)

Fabric: Please do not get anything shiny or stretchy for first time projects. Stay away from these things unless the pattern calls for that type of fabric. Quilter's cotton and/or flannels are always good for the Beginner 's Class projects.

Scissors: I provide all scissors. I even have LEFTIES! However, if you are a LEFTY, you may want to consider purchasing your own pair of fabric shears.

Are Supplies included?

I provide all sewing tools: machine, seam guages, measuring tapes, pins, needles, scissors, irons, etc.

I do NOT supply thread.

How do I pay you?

You can Venmo me.
